To C. Milloy: The Real HU Basher Extraordinaire

Hello,

I am a junior/senior attending Howard University, the Mecca!  When I say Mecca I mean an institution of that has produced many intelligent iconic figures in the arts, business, science, and other disciplines.  While I was not in attendance at this year's Yardfest, I did happen to read your article regarding the event.  I was highly disappointed.  What could have been an excellent, critical review of the history of Yardfest to what it has become today (I agree that it is not the homecoming ritual that it once was) you sought your hardest to diminish the credibility not only of this amazing homecoming event, but also the university itself.

I will admit while I had rough beginnings at the institution, and even belong to a discipline that will be discontinued in 2015 following my school's Academic Renewal which happened in order to focus on the school's research based disciplines, your article was distasteful and poorly written.  It was filled with satire, bias, and NON-constructive criticism.  As a follower of the Washington Post and an almost journalist, I have to say YOU NEED TO DO BETTER.  Instead of inspiring my fellow students to do better and to encourage other students/pupils to do better, you are surely attempting to incite a riot, another subject for another one of your less-than well thought out articles.  Nowhere in the article did you seek to ask any specific alumni or current Howard University students for their thoughts on the event that occurred this past Friday.  Instead you assumed that we are culture-less, uncouth and ignorant- seemingly the main argument of any person criticizing the lives and experiences and events of Blacks in this country.  I assure you that had you attempted to do more research regarding this event you would have found many disappointed yet strong student leaders ready to take action to ensure that next year's homecoming events do not end in a similar way.

Please, my friend, the next time you decide to write an "article" about my school, do it with some professionalism and some class- both of which your "article" lacked.

Until next time (or will there be one?),

Trilla

Shit is about to get very, very real. I'm about to take this journey by myself for once, sans parents. I'm glad you all will be along for the ride.

Ode to Food

Often times you hear people discuss food in a negative or passive manner.  They down talk it using words with negative connotations, demoralize it by talk about grease and fat and butter as if they asked to be eaten themselves.  "Bad, food, bad!," people exclaim, scolding food as if it were a puppy Daschund.

I am a little different.  I love food completely and wholeheartedly.  It's the one constant in my life that keeps on giving.  No, I don't have some ridiculous eating disorder or anything (no offense).  I just have a very healthy relationship with breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper, the Fourthmeal, and snacks.  If I'm feeling down nothing says "It's going to be OK" or "You go girl!" like chocolate.  If I'm feeling accomplished, tilapia knows how to congratulate me.  When violence isn't the answer, there's always a good t-bone to allow me take my anger out on itself.

Old Levi's that are now my "boyfriend jeans," pashmina scarf, UO heels, Maybelline Color Show polish in Impeccable Greys  (Only fitting as I'm finally finishing up the Fifty Shades series!)

For example, today, my mother was agitating the frizeak out of me, and whom do you ask did I run to? Oh, just some steak and two slices of cake with frosting.  I don't care what any nutritionist says- it made me feel better and I'm still healthy.  Craving some hot Cheetos, too...

All of this to say don't run from food; food is your friend in good times and bad.

Steez-mode- Cheapies but Goodies

Thank goodness now my boxes have arrived from the East Coast so I'll be able to mix these shoes with all of my Fall favorites for layering.  I love mixing seasons.  Yay, cannot wait to do that post!

Even though it is Autumn and it is getting a wee bit chilly outside and being the slight girlie girl that I am I cannot seem to let go of my open-toed shoes.  I scored these two Holiday seasons ago, actually, for a Grand Slam steal of $20 from Francesca's. (Go figure! See, they're perfect for Fall!)  My mom has been keeping these beautiful babies waiting for me: now I think it's the right timing for us both, lol.  I love the heel; I'm pretty "Go Hard or Go Home" when it comes to high heels.  The Taller and edgier, the better!  I am dying because I need new tights, but cannot afford any right now.  Imagine these with a rich jewel tone knit tight... Vomit.  I may even try a nice knit sock with these- they're hella roomy and so very comfy.

Mmm, mmm patterned and or outrageous shoes.  Gotta love 'em.  My belovesd stepmommy gifted me with these when i got back to Cali.  I believe they're easily transferrable to fall with tights and or some genius layering.  I've only gotten to wear them seemingly few times, so mixing them also with a great tight and/ or some denim on denim with leather will be fin.  In fact, I've got the perfect outfit in mind. :D

Epic Shit-"Diced Pineapples" and "Cherry Wine"

If this title doesn't make me wanna hit up a bar or a club for some bomb ass drinks, I don't know what does!  Happy Thirsty Thursday. ;)

I've been kind of floating along this week, getting my life in a little bit more order.  I can't believe Fall is here again already! I swear I remember last Fall so well.  The older I get the more I realize it's my favorite season of the year.  Beautifully colored leaves on the ground  for long walks complemented by fabulous Fall layered looks in fashion, Autumn is a season that always makes me feel cozy, spiritual, and introspective.

What I also love about Fall is that Im able to spend some great time inside listening to jams, be that at my house dancing and/or crooning in front of my mirror, or kicking at a lounge or kickback.  Lately I'v ebeen incredibly obsessed with "Diced Pineapples" by Rick Ross featuring Wale and Drake.  It's the Perfect combination of suave, chill, and enticing to the ear.

Ahhh, that song does something to me.  The laid-back tone brings me into Autumn yet reminds me of Summer.  Great combination!  I also can't get enough of "Cherry WIne"by Nas featuring the late and great Amy Winehouse. The song tlaks about Nas and his aspirtions for a female and their unrequited love and/or friendship.  First of all, this song was already a winner because Nas is back and is legend- and he's gorgeous.  Second this song was a banger because of the soothing and charming vocals of Ms. Winehouse.  I loved their :Like Smoke" collabo, so this was a sweet surprise.

If these two singles give me any glimpse of what Fall music will be like, I'm hooked like a kid on Halloween.  Candy apples, anyone?

Slow Down

Hey y'all! Just checking in after a seemingly super long weekend. Gotta get used to being home with nothing to do; is been on super autopilot for months prior to that little breakdown of mine, lol..

In good news, I'm off dem meds!!! I swear I feel hella good off of em. I spent the weekend with my love best friend just kicking it. It felt so good just to get out of the house.

I needed to come home and just be for a while, though I'm super eager to be on the go again. My mama nem ain't playing that though; understandable! I miss DMV like heck though; the place stole my vulnerable ass heart, smh.

Check out the pics for fun stuff! BTW, how about the lip color? It's by CoverGirl's Queen collection in powderpuff pink. Love it!!!
